  Guard Post Puller

Description:

The innovative design of the guardrail post puller is used to help remove broken or damaged guardrail posts quickly and safely without putting a lot of stress on the crew. Crew 46-41 in Milan, New Mexico implemented this new tool to be available for use along roadways.

The guardrail post puller was developed by the district shop in District 6. The idea came from an ice pick and was developed from there into the guardrail post puller used today. The jaw can expand to fit a variety of different size posts and has the capability to expand up to 15”.

Crew 46-41 use the guardrail post puller to remove posts along the road by simply attaching the device to a loader tractor’s bucket, then attaching the guardrail puller to the broken posts and then the post is lifted out of the ground by raising the loader. There is no digging required and no dirt enters the empty hole, which makes it very easy to replace the posts.

This new tool has greatly reduced the effort once needed from the crew to remove guardrail posts from the roadways and has made the whole process of removing guardrail posts a lot safer.

Result:

The guardrail post puller has been a great help to Crew 46-41. This device has significantly reduced the time that it once took to remove guardrail posts and the process is much easier for crew workers than before the device was implemented. This device has made it faster, easier, and safer for employees to replace posts along the road.
