NMDOT crew 4182 based in Roy, New Mexico decided
to pursue building this piece of equipment as a result of
observing a local contractor using a similar piece of equipment.
Crew 4182 made numerous improvements in the design of their
concrete repair truck as compared to the contractor's.
The District Shop located an existing vehicle for this project
that had a high gross vehicle weight rating. Mechanics had
to install a transmission, extended the frame and built a
flat bed for the truck before it was turned over to Crew
4182.
This truck has a 600 gallon water capacity which is used
for mixing the concrete repair material. The two 300 gallon
water containers were salvaged from a maintenance price agreement
project with Uretek USA and installed directly behind the
cab of the truck. Water is used from both containers simultaneously
in order to maintain uniform loading on the truck. A gasoline
engine pump was installed so that there is a pressurized
water supply on the job versus using gravity alone. Multiple
valves with hose bibs were installed for easy accessibility
to water anywhere around the truck. Bleed lines and valves
were installed to prevent damage due to freezing. A headache
rack was installed by Crew 4182 in order to mount flashing
lights as a warning device within traffic control.
