Bloomfield Patrol Crew 45-66
developed a new device to improve their QPR patching operations.
The crew designed the asphalt patching box to hold asphalt
and mount on the back of the receiver hitch of any pickup
truck to better improve their QPR patching operations.
Before the crew began using the asphalt patching box they
were forced to handle the bags of asphalt themselves, tear
the bags, and use what was needed and then replace the torn
bag back into the truck all day long. Now with the asphalt
patching box, they throw in 5 to 6 bags of asphalt at a time
into the box and mount it to the back of the truck being
used and shovel material out as needed. The asphalt patching
box has saved the crew time and was easy to construct.
The asphalt patching box took two people and about 45 minutes
to construct. The frame is built out of two or three old
aluminum signs. The 2x2 angle iron makes up the frame, with
the 1x1 square tubing as a brace across the bottom of the
frame. The 2 inch square tubing mounts to the bottom of the
1 inch tubing to make the connection between the box and
the vehicle. They then painted the patching box and put reflective
tape to complete the box.
