Keeping America Moving
Each year, transportation agencies carry out extraordinary projects that keep America moving. These projects are driven by a sustained commitment to:
- Investing the public’s money wisely;
- Ensuring public safety;
- Maximizing daily mobility and minimizing disruptions;
- Finding smart solutions to meet new challenges;
- Developing sustainable solutions that protect the environment; and
- Involving citizens to produce results that meet their mobility needs.
This report highlights success stories from America’s transportation agencies. Each project was nominated in the 2009 America’s Transportation Awards competition, created by AAA, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to recognize outstanding transportation improvements delivered on time, on budget, and with innovative solutions.
These projects demonstrate the breadth of successful transportation investments. From work on vital interstate corridors that eased congestion and used fast-track construction techniques, to efforts that enhanced public safety by improving roads and raising public awareness, the actions of state DOTs significantly improved the relationship between America’s transportation systems and the communities they serve.
They also reflect the critical infrastructure improvements needed to support economic development and facilitate international trade.
America is, indeed, a country on the move—and the nation’s transportation agencies are committed to investing wisely to preserve, protect, and enhance safe mobility today and for the future.
